Issue/Introduction

You would like to know how to configure Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) or Symantec Endpoint Protection client (SEP) to use Symantec's HTTPS LiveUpdate servers.

Resolution

Follow the steps below to modify the LiveUpdate policy for the client versions 14.0 RTM - 14.2 MP 1 to only use HTTPS.

NOTE: 14.2 RU 1 SEP clients are already configured to use HTTPS LiveUpdate Servers.

  1. Login to the SEPM
  2. Go to Polices> LiveUpdate
  3. Click on LiveUpdate policy that you want to modify
  4. Click Edit the Policy
  5. Under Windows Settings select Server Settings
  6. Select the radio button for 'Use a specified internal LiveUpdate server’
  7. Click Add
  8. In the Server name field type Symantec HTTPS LiveUpdate Server 1
  9. In the URL field enter https://liveupdate.symantecliveupdate.com
  10. Click OK
  11. Click Add again
  12. In the Server name field type Symantec HTTPS LiveUpdate Server 2
  13. In the URL enter field enter https://liveupdate.symantec.com
  14. Click OK twice

Follow the steps below to modify the LiveUpdate policy for the SEPM to only use HTTPS.

  1. Login to the SEPM
  2. Click on Admin
  3. Click on Servers
  4. Select Local Site
  5. Edit Site Properties
  6. click on LiveUpdate tab
  7. Click Edit Source Servers
  8. Select the radio button for ‘Use a specified internal LiveUpdate server’
  9. Click Add
  10. In the Server name field type Symantec HTTPS LiveUpdate Server 1
  11. In the URL field enter https://liveupdate.symantecliveupdate.com
  12. Click Ok
  13. Click Add again
  14. In the Server name field type Symantec HTTPS LiveUpdate Server 2
  15. In the URL enter field enter https://liveupdate.symantec.com
  16. Click OK twice
