Issue/Introduction

When using Windows 10, clients display the NIC as disabled after upgrading the Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) client. The teefer driver gives the error ERROR: Call to getINetCfg() failed: 0x800106d9 during installation.

You see the following errors in teeferInstall.log after the installation fails:

ERROR: Initialize() failed : 0x800106d9
ERROR: Call to getINetCfg() failed: 0x800106d9
Start to query teefer service status.
OpenService Teefer2 failed. GetLastError(): 1060
Teefer install failed, trying once more in 5 seconds

When trying to install the the firewall, calling the Setup API SetupCopyOEMInf and INetCfgClassSetup->Install it returns an error:

Driver package missing 'C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\teefer.inf_x86_ae9ada4ffc411b6a\teefer.inf'. Error = 0x00000003

Environment

  • Microsoft Windows 10
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2016
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2019

Cause

The DriverStore and pnp database are mismatched. From the pnputil, the SEP oem9.inf is in the database. However, there is no file under the C:\windows\inf or C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository folder.

The System's DrvInst.exe failed to create the files.

Resolution

Upgrade Windows to the latest version.
