Important: Read the entire document before beginning the Altiris Solution update.
·To update the Altiris Monitor Solution, see KB….
·Delete any "Bad" folders in the event queue folders (EvtInbox, EvtQFast, EvtQLarge, EvtQSlow, and EvtQueue) at C:\Program Files\Altiris\Notification Server\NSCap. (This may speed up the Notification Server update and performance.)
·If the Notification Server environment is very large, with multiple thousands of managed computers:
·Make sure that the Altiris Agent Upgrade policy (at the Configuration Tab > Altiris Agent > Altiris Agent Rollout > Altiris Agent Upgrade) is set to a collection of no more then approximately 3000 managed computers at a time.
Important:This value of approximately 3000 managed computers is only a recommendation and varies depending on your network bandwidth, performance, and network use. You may need to clone the existing Altiris Agent Update policy and modify it for specific subnets or other criteria such first letter or letters of the computer name to get collections to use for the policy.
·Make sure that the solution’s agent update policies are notenabled.The Altiris solution agent upgrade policies are located at the Configuration Tab > Solution Settings > Folder (example: Incident Management) > Folder (example: Carbon Copy Agent Rollout) > policy (example: No Reboot - Carbon Copy Agent Upgrade).
Note: Not all solutions have a solution agent.
Upgrade the Notification Server (if applicable). The Notification Server upgrade is available at Configuration Tab > Upgrade/Install Additional Solutions. In the right pane, click the "Available Solutions" tab "Segments" button and go to and click the "Notification Server Upgrades and Updates" heading. If an update version for "
....." is available, click the blue link to start the installation.
Enable the Altiris Agent Upgrade policy (if applicable).This updates the Altiris Agent on the managed computer with the new Altiris Agent. The "Altiris Agent Upgrade" policy is at the Configuration Tab > Altiris Agent > Altiris Agent Rollout > Altiris Agent Upgrade. Upgrade/Install Additional Solutions. Make sure the policy is enabled and the "Applies to Collection: field has "All Windows Computers Requiring Altiris Agent Upgrade" entered if you have fewer then 3000 managed computers.
Important:If the “All Windows Computers Requiring Altiris Agent Upgrade" collection has more then approximately 3000 managed computers, make and use collections that have no more then approximately 3000 managed computers.
When the managed computers in the collection do their next scheduled "Update Configuration", they will get the new Altiris Agent.
Upgrade the solutions using the
.Click the Configuration Tab > Upgrade/Install Additional Solutions. In the right pane, click the "Currently Installed" tab. Look through the list and determine which solutions you want to update. Click the "Update" button for the applicable solutions and follow the install wizard. When the solution is updated, repeat the process for the solution’s report packs and documentation if applicable. When you have updated a solution, report pack, and documentation, repeat the procedure to updates the other solutions, report packs, and documentation.
Enabling the solution agent update policies.After the Altiris Agent is updated on all the managed computers and all the solutions have been updated on the Notification Server, enabling the solution agent update policies.If the network has multiple thousands of managed computers, stager enabling the solution agents to reduce the impact on the network.
Note: Not all solutions have a solution agent.
The Altiris solution agent upgrade policies are located at the Configuration Tab > Solution Settings > Folder (example: Incident Management) > Folder (example: Carbon Copy Agent Rollout) > policy (example: No Reboot - Carbon Copy Agent Upgrade). Make sure the policy is enabled and the "Applies to Collection: field has a collection something like "NS Agents Requiring Solution Upgrade" entered. When the managed computers do their next scheduled "Update Configuration", they will get the new solution agent.
Update Deployment Server (if applicable). If you updated the Deployment Solution in the Altiris Console'
, update the Deployment Server software to the newest version. The update order doesn't matter.
Enter your e-mail and select "Deployment Server for ... " and click the Submit button.
Read the agreement and click the "Yes, I agree" if you agree with the terms of the End User License Agreement.
In the Deployment Solution for Clients page, click the "Deployment Solution for Clients version" link to down load the current version.
Note: Other components are also available and you may want to download them too. If you installed the Deployment Solution from the Altiris Console's
, you don't need to download and install the "Deployment Solution ... Integrated Installation".
