Error: The procedure entry point _resetstkoflw occurs when creating WinPE preboot image under Windows 2000 SP4
Last Updated August 09, 2007
When the Dell WinPE (32-bit) preboot image (or any other preboot image utilizing the Dell .oem extensions) is created, a series of errors occur with the first one stating: "The procedure entry point _resetstkoflw could not be located in the dynamic link library msvcrt.dll".
When jobs are run with the image produced (with errors), the job fails complaining that it could not obtain the SYSINFO.
The root cause of this error is that Windows 2000 by default does not provide reg.exe, and the reg.exe included with WinPE is incompatible with Windows 2000's msvcrt.dll. Without a functioning reg.exe, necessary entries cannot be inserted into the WinPE registry.
Steps to resolve:
Install the Windows 2000 SP4 Support Tools (this will provide reg.exe):
Replace the Injecthiv.vbs script in the datastore at the following location with the one attached to this article.
Regenerate your Dell WinPE v3 image using the PXE Configuration Utility (if you are using PXE). If you are not using PXE, you will need to re-create (or regenerate) your image for your boot media. No errors should occur during image generation.
