Scripted OS Installation job fails with "error 1 during scripted OS installation"
Last Updated March 28, 2009
Using the sample Longhorn_unattend.xml file provided with Deployment Server, immediately after scheduling a Scripted OS Installation job the console displays the job failed with the status "error 1 during scripted os installation"
The provided answer file Longhorn_unattend.xml contains multiple tokens. One of the tokens is %OS_PRODUCT_KEY% which is only a valid token for Distribute Disk Image jobs configured to use Sysprep. Because it's not valid for Scripted OS Installation jobs the Replace Tokens process fails.
Make a copy of the Longhorn_unattend.xml file, and replace the %OS_PRODUCT_KEY% token with the product key. There are two locations to change it, one is just under the Computer Name
That one is ignored by Windows Setup, but doesn't hurt to set it there. The other is further down
That one needs to be set. If desired the value can be left blank ( <Key></Key> ) and Windows Setup will prompt for the product key.
Be sure to remove the entire token including the %'s otherwise Windows Setup will not be able to parse the unattend answer file.
Applies To Deployment Server 6.9 SP1 and prior releases
