SIM shows that NS7 (Symantec Managament Platform) is installed even though the installation failed.
Unknown. In this particular instance, the customer did in place upgrade from NS6 to NS7. Our assumption is that when NS7 was removing NS6, some components in IIS for the Default Website were removed and NS7 didn't recreate the Altiris Virtual Directory. So, when we try to access the Altiris Console, it complains that it can not find the page.
Try first restarting IIS manually via RUN prompt with iisreset.
Check under IIS Manager>Web Service Extensions if ASP.NET 2.0 is 'Allowed'. If not, make the status change.
If the step above doesn't work, check if SEP (Symantec Endpoint Protection) is installed. If so, try suggestions on Article ID: TECH42065 "Notification Server 6 fails to install on a server running Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager 11"
If the steps above didn't work, completely remove Symantec Management Platform and SIM from that server, then reinstall SIM one more time
Finally, install the Symantec Management Platform as stand alone and not as part of the CMS7 installation. After the platform is installed then install the remaining components for CMS7.
Another possible cause of this error, is if the machine does not have a DNS suffix properly configured. This will cause the SMP's web configuration to not properly recognize requests made to the machine's fully qualified domain name.
Access the properties of My Computer > "Computer Name"
Ensure the "Full computer name:" field states the correct FQDN for the domain in accordance with its domain membership. If it does not, choose Change > "More..." and manually enter the correct domain information for "Primary DNS suffix of this computer"
Reboot the machine
Uninstall the Symantec Management Platform and any other Solutions from the Symantec Installation Manager
