KNOWN ISSUE: Winword.exe causing high CPU utilization when Lookup option is being used
Last Updated November 26, 2009
If you type something in a Word document and then highlight the text, right click on the text and select "Lookup", winword.exe takes about 50 % CPU on a
dual core processor and 90% + in a single processor and it could take around 30 + seconds until the right Research pane opens.
If we do the same process on a machine where MS-Office 2003 is install on the base the whole process to open the research pane takes around 3 to 5 seconds.
it appears that a large number of keys being created/enumerated every time this command is run.
