You want to monitor the hardware on your SSIM Appliance
This can de done using DRAC4 - Dell Remote Access Card. Full Details can be found at Dell's website, but here are some steps to configure hardware monitoring and email alerting on a SSIM 9500 series appliance DRAC.
At boot up after BIOS screen press Control + D
Then one you are in the menu configure the IP of the DRAC. Once the IP is configured you can connect to the web interface.
Default user name = root
Default password = calvin
From the home screen, click configuration and scroll to the bottom of the screen
At the bottom of the screen, you will notice an option for an email server – enter the IP of the mail server here and click apply (make sure that “Enable Email Alerts” is ticked) then click the Users link under the Configuration tab
Click an [Available] slot to add a new user
Enter a username and password any user options you require (it doesn’t really matter what you select here – the user isn’t going to be logging into the DRAC) then scroll to the bottom of the screen
Place a tick in “Enable Email Alerts” then enter an email address to send alerts to. Enter a customised message if you require it. Then select what level of alerting you wish to receive and click Apply... thats it! You can also configure SNMP alerting from the Alerts option under the Configurations tab.
How to configure hardware monitoring and email alerting on a SSIM 9600 series appliance DRAC
From the home screen, click Alert Management and scroll to the bottom of the screen
Click an event you want to alert on
Place a tick in the Enable box underneath “Generate Alert” and click Apply Changes. Click Go Back... if you want to configure other alerts, then underneath Alert Management, click Email Alert Settings
Enter the SMTP server IP Address and click Apply Changes, then click one of the email Alerts listed above to change it
You can then specify whether the alert is enabled, where it is sent and a description. Click Apply to complete or “Send Test Email” to test the functionality.
