How do Comma Separated Value (CSV) or XML files need to be formatted to import Assets
Last Updated May 02, 2013
You want to import a series of Assets as a CSV or XML file, but you do not know the format to put the import file in.
The format may change from version to version of SSIM to ensure you get the format correct for your version of Symantec Security Information Manager (SSIM), export an existing Asset that was manually created. Use the exported Asset as a template for your Assets to import.
Enter one asset correctly through the SSIM interface .
Highlight that Asset in the Assets list page
Export the asset, "CSV" is usually the easiest format to work with but you can also select xml. You cannot Import assets from "html" format.
Open the exported CSV or XML file in Notepad or another text or xml editor such as Notepad++.
Any new Assets that you wish to import must follow the format of the Asset you exported and must have the fields below populated with something inside of double quotes. Other fields can be left empty in this format "",
MAC address - for a place holder use 00:00:00:00:00:00 and leave it unlocked to be updated by SSIM
Confidentiality - by default it will always be at least 1
Integrity - by default it will always be at least 1
Availability - by default it will always be at least 1
Locked - can be either Locked or Unlocked, this will depend on if you want this asset updated by SSIM Collectors
Last Updated - needs to be in Java Date format, see the example below
