Issue/Introduction

Why Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Service does not start and i am getting 'http 500 Internal Server Error ' in Scm-server-o.log and Java -1 in Application logs?

Symptoms
SEPM service will not remain started.

In Event viewer, Application logs you will notice "The Java Virtual Machine has exited with a code of -1, the service is being stopped."
Check the ODBC connection it will be successful,
DeafultApppool is working fine with no errors.
Ran secars test by opening IE and then type http:///secars?hello,secars got http 500 Internal Server Error.

Cause

In IIS 7 some other website was hosted also on Default website and there were some changes done in IIS because of which Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager will not work normally. There were two differences in IIS settings and as a result SEPM will not work normally:- 1.) In Symantec Website Site Bindings instead of putting IP address on All Unassigned and Symantec Default port it was on some different IP address and unknown port 2.) In Symantec Web Server IIS Authentication ASP.NET Impersonation was set on Enable which usually should be Disable.

Resolution

-Open the IIS manager by clicking on Start--Run and then type inetmgr click OK, this will open the IIS manager console.

-Expand the Server Name on the Left side, then expand Sites, click on Symantec Web Server ,

-Right Click on Symantec Web Server you will have option Edit Bindings ,click on it and edit the Bindings and make sure IP Address is All Unassigned and Port is 8014 (It can Vary depending upon what port SEPM is using in IIS), Click on OK then close the Bindings window.

-Click on Symantec Web Server

-In the middle top left section of IIS manager modify the Group view by Area.

-Under IIS area you will see Authentication, right click and click on open Feature you will see ASP.NET Impersonation which will be enabled.

-Right click on that and click on Disable.

Restart the IISAdmin service and then start the Symantec Endpoint protection Manager service.

Issue is resolved and you can open and login into Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Successfully.
